Challenge

The Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department (CMPD) of Charlotte, North Carolina is staffed with over 1300 police officers and 800 administrative personnel. It sought to give officers easy access to mission-critical data in order to effectively do their jobs and manage the peace. Challenges included:

• Officers were forced to travel to one of the “dumb terminal” sites located throughout the county to access mission-critical information.
• Access to terminals was a challenge as they were shared by both police officers and administrative personnel.
• The system needed to be configured to remain functional in the event of a failure.
• After attempting a number of workarounds to implement a client/server network implementation, CMPD realized they needed assistance to devise a better connectivity solution.
